Hotel Rothesay

I seem to be irresistibly draw drawn to the constantly-rotating cast of characters in Caledon Rothesay. Once again, thanks to Mr. Mako Magellan's comments in the Steamlander, I paid a visit.

Miss Gabrielle Riel has decamped from her Duchy of Carntaigh, leaving the entire area to Miss Savannah Blindside, Duchess of Clarendon, and Mr. Blake Panache. The area is still under (re-)construction, but I took a few pictures.

Below, Blindside Manor:

Most of the earlier landscaping is gone, yet to be replaced. But the property has a pretty waterfall and small pool.

A new building is going up in the center of the property.

This scale model suggests what the finished product will look like.

Mr. Panache is completing what appears to be a large store and a series of elegant town homes.

And what of the earlier residents of Rothesay, Laird Elrik Merlin and the Duchess of Carntaigh? I happened to return to Aether Isle through Victoria City, only to find that both had property in the city. Below, Mr. Merlin's modest home, the new Brideswell Estate:

Miss Riel has a larger property and home, Carntaigh House:

The Curse Claims Another Victim

Some days ago, Mr. Mako Magellan observed (via the Steamlander) that the Curse of Rothesay has struck again, this time taking Elrik Merlin, Laird Brideswell, with it.

The Laird was one of the original residents of Rothesay (itself arising from the ashes of the openspace sim debacle that claimed several duchies) and has long been the sole surviving original owner. This Journal has chronicled many of the moves into and out of the area (starting perhaps here).

I hoped Mr. Magellan was mistaken, but when I hastened to the site of Brideswell Manor, I saw instead this building, still under construction:
The future home of the Caledon Museum of Steam

Museums are, of course, lovely things, and a museum of steam should be quite interesting and fitting for Caledon. According to the land records, the property is held by Her Grace Carntaigh, who already owns a quarter of Rothesay. If Mr. Merlin has indeed departed the shores of Caledon, I wish him well.

The rest of Rothesay appeared unchanged. Mr. Blake Panache's Blakefield Manor still rises over the trees...

...looking out at the brownstone town houses across the way.

Lady Savannah Blindside resides at the elegant house below:

The Gordon Memorial anchors the center of the area (and dates from the time when Lord and Lady Primbroke lived in a nearby manor, complete with secret tunnels).

Lady Gabrielle Riel, Duchess of Carntaigh, still resides at stately Carntaigh Manor:

Caledon Harvest Festival

A somewhat belated report...

Caledon's fourth annual Harvest Festival was held from October 8 to 10 in Caledon Rothesay.

A variety of businesses set up temporary shop, along with a kissing booth, a dunking booth, and tarot reading. This being Caledon, there were dances in the evenings.

One of the attractions was Mr. Denver Hax's Wild Cavorite Ride. (I am told that negotiations are underway for hosting this ride on a semi-permanent basis. This will surely solve any overpopulation crisis in the realm.) One travels up to the platform base and entered the chamber. As the ride starts, one is dropped unceremoniously into a sphere-shaped capsule. The capsule is then launched, and the aptly-named wild ride begins.

One time I visited a neighboring sim; another time I vanished off the edge of the world and was logged out. Barring the unexpected log-out, the ride always ends the same way: with the capsule crashing down to earth. It's a good thing I have extra padding!

I can only hope the harvest was good this year, because I'm hungry!

Rothesay in September

(Yes, it is October now. This item was pushed back from a September publication date because of the breaking news of the New Toulouse hurricane and flood. - KJ)

This Journal has visited the Duchy of Rothesay numerous times in the past (most recently here, with memorable visits here, here, and here). It is a lovely spot, easily accessible from Victoria City, with large, stately mansions and elegant gardens. My past visit, in early September, was no different - except, of course, that some occupants had changed.

I start with Miss Savanna Blindside's Blind Faith Manor in the Duchy of Clarendon:

Note the formal gardens to the right.

Below is the unmistakeable front of Carntaigh Court, in Miss Gabrielle Riel's Duchy of Carntaigh.

The large fountain (below) is the centerpiece of an elegantly-manicured garden.

Laird Brideswell, Elrik Merlin, continues to reside on the last remaining original plot in Rothesay, in Brideswell Estate:

Another newcomer is Mr. Blake Panache, owner of Blakefield Manor (still under construction when I visited).

Exciting times in Rothesay!

The Curse of Rothesay Lives On

Miss Anderton has placed her share of Rothesay up for sale:

I have lost track of the number of times three of the four parcels have changed hands. At least Mr. Merlin can't complain of having to see the same neighbors month in, month out!

A Steampunk Christmas Carol in Rothesay

Mr. Iason Hassanov has created a tableau in Rothesay for his adaption of Mr. Charles Dickens' story, "A Christmas Carol." Miss Eleanor Anderton has kindly provided a space for this display.

"A Steampunk Christmas Carol" features the beloved Bob Ratchett and his son, Tinny Tim, the miserly Mr. Turnscrew, and the clanks of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.

Also in Rothesay, Miss Anna Darwinian has announced she is selling her duchy, pictured below (with Victoria City in the background). The Curse of Rothesay lives!
