What On Earth?

I was walking through the Downs near the Jameson residence one fine evening when I noticed a bright light just to the other side of the Glengarry border. Moseying over to see what was there, I saw the gentleman in black (mostly obscured, but on the left-hand side of the picture) rezzing mushroom after mushroom, for what purpose, Lord only knows.

It's an interesting psychedelic effect, though.

I have actually been there :)
The shrooms do not tell you what they are until you rez them and take them back into inventory. So the only way to tell what you have collected is to do just that!
And if you do it out in the open, you are MUCH less likely to accidentally take the walls or floor of your house into inventory as well.

Ahh, he's just a fungi you know... ;-)

I've done that myself, Mrs. V, and for the same reasons you mention. It's just that I'd work on one, two, a half dozen, even a dozen at a time.

You know, HBA, I had a high school friend who became a marine biologist. He spent a summer in Bermuda doing whatever marine biologists do, which appeared to involve mushrooms for some reason, and said that their mantra was: "Don't be a fungus, be a fungi." Scientist humor. Sheesh.

It wasn't so much the rezzing of mushrooms that startled me as the quantity and speed. It's as though he dragged them all from his inventory at once, so they arose, fully-formed, in a few seconds. Pop pop pop and there they were!

I wanted to stay and see if the sim would fill up, but I was afraid that somehow I'd get the blame. :)

Amusingly, this was right around the time that in-world services, especially the Linden dollar balances, started to go haywire. I had this image of the poor guy "buying" a mushroom from Des for L$0 and ending up with a negative L$100,000 balance, and repeating the process two dozen times before he noticed!

I might have encountered the same individual yesterday but it's hard to tell with black being such a popular apparel color. To deal with my own burgeoning shroom collection I've resorted to a similar technique but in a bare patch of my own front garden in Glengarry. *waves at the Jameson neighbors across the border*. I've been tempted to leave a few in place to confuse other Hunters should they happen by but that would be mischief, something I rarely partake of. :)
